Hope your fall weather has been as lovely as ours! But my family and I are back in Cambridge now and settling in for the winter.

As you can see we have expanded our Southern Breeze Bookstore to include Travel Fiction.  Let us know what you think of this section. We'd love your feedback. I got the idea from a terrific store I like to visit here in Cambridge called The Globe Corner. (www.globecorner.com) I love going to other corners of the world through others' experiences.  Sometimes I like it better than going there myself; sometimes it inspires me to go. Anyway, we wanted to offer it before winter settled in and you found yourself on the sofa wishing you were on some exotic island. You can email us with your comments at:

Of course this is the holiday edition so our friends from Southern Living have a few tips for making our holidays more festive, and delicious. In addition to their yearly Christmas magazine, I highly recommend their Christmas Cookbook. It has some fantastic ideas!

State-of-the-Month ~ Mississippi

Did you know?

  • Mississippi got it's name when French explorers recorded the region as the Messipi because of the river. Messipi was their rendering of the Ojibwas name for the river. It means "big river."

  • In 1902 while on a hunting expedition in Sharkey County, President Theodore Roosevelt, refused to shot a captured bear. This act resulted in the nickname of Teddy Roosevelt.

  • Nearly 60% of Mississippi  is covered by forests, and more than 100 species of trees are found in the state.

  • Mississippi's warm climate and rich soil proved ideal for growing cotton which became the  main economic  crop before 1800  and remained important  until the 20th century.

Next issue, Maryland!  Thank you to everyone who voted.
