- One of the hottest places in
the United States during July and August has to be Oxford,
Mississippi, but as many of you know, I still look forward to going
there in the summer . This summer, when I go, I will talk with
resident and writer, Tom Franklin about his book due out soon,
Smonk : A Novel .
I also hope to sit down and chat with Beth Ann Fennelly about her
book of letters
Great with Child: Letters to a Young Mother ,
and perhaps learn what Mr. Barry Hannah is up to these days.
The town is known for its tradition of storytelling--both orators
and writers, and so it's a treat to be around so much talent.
In the meantime, while I'm gathering new reviews and information on
southern books to pass on to you, you should check out Darnell
Arnoult's debut novel,
Sufficient Grace. Arnoult appeals to a wide audience and
her talent has taken the writing community by storm.
Barefootin' is another one
worth checking out and if you're looking for some magnificent
summertime cooking, I must recommend
Savannah Seasons .
