Edward P.
Jones was born and raised in Washington, D.C. As a young, black
man raised by a strong woman, it seems he learned he could accomplish
anything he set out to do. He attended the Holy Cross
College and the University of Virginia and earned the honor of several
prestigious grants, including a grant from the National Endowments of
the Arts.
He has
been the recipient of the Pen/Hemingway Award, and his first book,
Lost in the City,
earned him a spot on the short list for the National Book Award. His
second novel,
The Known World, was a finalist for the National Book
Award and earned him the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for fiction in
2004.
Mr.
Jones has taught fiction at Princeton University, George Mason
University and the University of Maryland.
He
currently resides in Arlington, Virginia.
